Some AP during the Cloudy nights last year!

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Some AP during the Cloudy nights last year!

Post by timatworksg »

Sharing these here which were taken from my 2nd floor Balcony Planter Box Pier with my current set up! They were taken last year (Dec 2010) during the cloudy nights when there was that hopeful and respectably clear night sky all with low floor light pollution and all! Hope you like them!
Both were done with the following set up;
- WO M88FD & Orion Starshoot DSCI II/WO ZS66SD & Meade DSI(Guider)/PHD/Processed in Maxim DL/PS CS3

NGC 2362 (a nice open cluster in Canis Major. Through an 80mm scope you would need averted vision to notice the smaller stars making up the cluster)
- 10x60s/10x120s/10x180s subs
Image

M42 (again!) Was a test subject with the current set up!
- 5x30s/5x60s subs

Hi,
Nice shot and well done!! [smilie=admire2.gif]

Advantage of having a balcony during those cloudy nights... can start shooting at the moment the sky clear... :)

By the way, why there are "lines" in the brighter star in the star clusters??

Have a nice day.

Thanks guys!

@weixing
Yeah,...the issue with the Starshoot DSCI II. It has those niggling inconsistency with it's images. Firmware issues from what I have read on forums. Sometimes during a series of captures...a few shots will be just Noise or you get little lines..grrrr!..lol! Orion fixed things with the cams that followed...but never went back to this one. (sigh**) It appears rarely and then it doesn't! (as in the M42 shot). I can get rid of it in PS but to lazy to dive deeper. Gone were my days of serious commercial DI..lol!

Besides,...it's for training use for now..lol! Till I decide on a new one!!

Ok...sorry guys but re-uploaded the correct NGC2362 image. Previous was one of the copies not fully processed, hence the lines!
Thanks weixing for noticing! Too many files..lol!

Thanks Remus, Wee Ern & kensou.

If anything, would have benefited from a few shorter exposures but clouds don't help!
A one shot cam helps with limited astro time..hehe. Perhaps some day I will head down the monochrome LRGB. But with all these clouds I'll stick with the OSC for now.

Had M50 but the clouds didn't let me get past 5 subs...sob sob! Next time!
