hi weixing
what stacking software do you use? i'm in exactly the boat, light pollution galore and everything is a hideous brown.
do you adjust the black point on every frame? or only after stacking? am using Deep Sky Stacker and the resulting stack (before adjustment) is almost pure white!

Hi,
Happy imaging and have a nice day.
I use IRIS to process the image and IMHO, the deepskystacker is just as good and is easier to use. I choose IRIS over the deepskystacker because IRIS can perform calibration step manually, so that I can do the processing over a few days when I'm free as my old laptop is very slow and I use it for work too. Now I had a new and faster PC, I can try deepskystacker.orly_andico wrote:hi weixing

I only adjust the black point after the calibration and stacking, but I do normalize each frames before stacking.orly_andico wrote: do you adjust the black point on every frame? or only after stacking? am using Deep Sky Stacker and the resulting stack (before adjustment) is almost pure white!

Hi,
I try the Deepskystacker to process the same image, the processing was very fast as it use all my CPU processing core. The result wasn't that good, but may be because I'm new to the software and some setting might not be set correctly. Will try out various setting and see what can I get.
Have a nice day.
Normalize is to set the median level of each image to 0, so that the dynamic range of the image will be increase after stacking.orly_andico wrote:hmm.. normalize frame before stacking.. meaning? adjust white point so that the histogram almost touches the right side? or stretch so that the histogram ranges from the left to the right?
i think DSS would do this already...

Hi,
I created a new thread on this.
I have done some testing and I think the result produce by should be correct, just that DeepSkyStacker display the full tonal range of the image (or may be I can't find the setting??) where IRIS and other software can display part of the range.
Will do more testing.
Have a nice day.
