Punggai Trip (March 11 - 13)

Post by rcj »

Hi,

Thought a thread should be started to document this trip, since for one, it is by far the biggest Punggai trip to date. Gonna be interesting with a wide array of telescope setups, inclusive of an exciting solar viewing experience!

Hi Remus,
Sounds great. But these days really no time to go for such obs.
It looks like no one goes to Mersing anymore?
BTW, will let Wira know. He called me a few weeks back to say he is ready to join in.... [smilie=cool.gif]

Rich: Not that I know of....the last I heard, there is a considerable-sized resort built at the fields (southern end) that we used to do our stargazing. And they seem to have flood lights. Price-wise, a bit on the high side if one decides to stay a night or two there.

It is definitely one of the most memorable places for observing and imaging in Malaysia...wide expanse of flat grass lands, picturesque coconut trees (as backdrop for nice star trail shots), and relatively dark environment.

Anyway back on topic, with this many people going for punggai...i think got to start "choping" set-up spots! hehehe....guess whether clear or not, it will be a fun trip!

Oh no...
But even with flood lights I would surmise its still better than Singapore on a good night. May find a chance to pop by there again for old time's sake.
And yes CC, will let you know although I need to squeeze in the time to go nowadays and plan week ahead. [smilie=crying3.gif]
