Clear sky and it had to be on a full Moon. Colour imaging will be quite impractical under this condition. Below is my intepretation of a colour image with 2 narrowband filters, H-alpha & OIII. My mount misbehaved on this occasion again, hence the eggy stars, especially pronounced on the longer exposures with the Halpha filter.
Imgae info:

Mount: Losmandy GM8 with Gemini
OTA: Takahashi FSQ85
Camera: Modified/cooled Canon 350D
Guide scope: 50mm Mini Borg
Guide camera: Meade DSI Pro
Subs: 8x10min Halpha, 10x5min OIII

the nebula is large! must use bigger FOV.....but good work!

Nice work with the effort full moon and all! I'm waiting for a good night to grab the cluster within...don't have that wide a FOV so close up..lol!

I wonder if my un-mod D700 will be able to pick up at least some HA - I figure the longest exposure time I can do is 5mins at ISO3200 (beyond that the amp glow really kicks in)
Anyone willing to lend a 2" HA filter? I try.....

hi. may i ask how do i locate eta carinae? im star hopping to the left of canopus but im not sure how will it look like. [smilie=stress.gif]

eMinty --> What equipment are you using and what's your FOV?

This will determine to a great extent what kind of stars you're using for star hopping

Hi, I'm locating it using a 7x50 finderscope for my 5" MCT with a 28mm plossl eyepiece.

It's above southern leiades and west of Crux... you'll see lots of stars there.

Anyway, it'll be easier if you are using an EQ mount:
1) Polar aligned your EQ mount as usual... never mind if not that accurate.
2) Aim your finderscope at the Beta Crucis... the second brightest star in Crux... the bright star at the left side of the cross near the Jewel Box Open Cluster.
3) Lock your DEC axis and move your RA axis toward the west slowly while look through the findescope... stop when you saw a lots of stars appear in your finderscope. That's eta carinae.
