When to look more often for X class solar flare

Post by superiorstream »

Hi,All
Was talking with someone in singastro and come across the topic of the recent X-class solar flare---betw 18 and 19 Feb 2011--the first for this solar cycle 24.Do look for the following and your chance of success may be higher
1)The sunspot involve is NOT the stable, monopole type but rather those with complex structure.See photo.1158 is such a sunspot
2)Days before the X eruption, the Cak profile may brighten up.The blue color photo indicates that 1158 is a possible one.Notice the 3 extra bright spots at the centre of the sunspot. Also note--the flare happen on the 18/19 while the sudden Cak brightening occur on the 15th.
3)Before the X-flare,the Ha image will review bright filaments in and around the sunspots concern and also may be frequented by C or M class flare.-see photo submitted(Feb 16,17,18).
4)Do have a wider band filter scope specialized to detect such extra bright flare.
