NGC 3293

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

NGC 3293

Post by timatworksg »

Been hazy and cloudy so only managed to squeeze this in over the weekend. NGC 3293 is an open cluster in Carina. The haziness these past nights caused lots of LP so couldn't capture more detail, colour and the nebulosity that surrounds this cluster.
Hopefully the nights get better and I can complete this cluster's image.
Also known as the Gem Cluster, together with the Jewel Box cluster....makes for some wonderful threats these coming nights! For now..hope you like it!

Beautiful cluster. Thanks for sharing. It does seem more packed then the Jewel Box.
Which reminds me its been ages since I last peered at the Jewel Box (I call it the "Christmas Tree Cluster"!).... [smilie=cool.gif]

Thanks Airconvent. Yes it is beautiful. It carries a mag6.5 red hot giant, which the hazy clouds didn't allow me to saturate enough...grrr. Time to get a mono cam and go LRGB...hmmm.

I do agree, now that you mentioned it...Jewel Box is shaped like a x'mas tree! When it starts rising earlier, a whole plethora of clusters, globulars and nebulars follow suit!

I did!...lol! But can be finicky with it's small chip! Takes some getting used to! Too used to blk and white star images from the DSI. Gotta Re-think the process..lol!

Thanks Remus & cataclysm. Every shoot I try different ways to process..lol! So pardon any inconsistency if noticed..lol! With the LP from my 2nd Floor, I often have to do some extra bits to processing here and there...especially layering/masking in PS!

Hope the haziness goes away! I wanna re-do this little guy! Grab more exposures, different lengths and then layer. Hopefully I can capture the gasses of nearby Eta Carina Nebula which bleeds into this cluster!
