Advice for Autoguiding Setup

Post by cloud_cover »

Hi guys, need advice on what adapters I need to purchase:
1. I have a VMC200L mounted on a Sphinx SXD for primary imaging scope The VMC came with 8"CNC rings with Losmandy DUP (original owner used a G-11) but now I use the original Vixen dovetail meant to mate with the bottom of the VMC directly so I don't use the rings)
2. I have a Celestron Onyx (80ED) that has its own foot.
3. I have a Celestron Nexguide autoguider (stand alone) with 1.25" nosepiece (so compatible with the Onyx)

What will I need to mount the Onyx onto the VMC200L in order to use it as a guidescope? And how can I do it cheaply? :)

I was considering a 50mm guidescope (simple) but the previous owner of the Nexguide said his 500mm guidescope + 4000mm SCT didn't work well as the Nexguide does not do subpixel guiding.

since i am notoriously cheap, and the DSI-to-M42 Mogg adapter costs $66 USD.. my solution was to buy a cheapo T-mount lens (yes such lenses do exist). They screw directly into the DSI if you remove the 1.25" nosepiece.

This one is a 135mm f3.5 Soligor and cost $15 USD
