[gone] WTS: Meade LX200 8" SCT (circa 1998)

Late 2024 update: This has been donated to a school.

Here is a chance to get this Meade 8" SCT at a great price.
Can also consider donating to a school group.
This set includes the LX200 alt-az fork base, with standard Meade tripod.

What you see is what you get: (2x barlow, Meade right-angle mirror, Meade Super Plossl 26mm, main objective cover, standard tripod which is very nice and sturdy)

Certain things are notably missing / defective:
- LX200 handset
- 18 VDC source this is easy to find, and the original was for 110VAC anyway.
- the azimuth-axis slow-control/motor drive does not work.
- corrector plate and the cheapo right-angle both look like there might be fungus. Corrector plate is easy to wash, and any remaining fungus probably has negligible actual effect on images, although this is something that the obsessive types might have to take note...

new school group

Post by pus88 »

Hi Kaon,

I have a school group that has just started into astronomy, and we are trying to get students intrested in astronomy but due to budget constrains, we only have those cheap telescope that you can get from carrefour.

Hence I noted that you would consider donating to a school group, was wondering if you would like to donate it to our school.

Thanks.

Hi pus88,
Yes, that can be considered...
May I know if you are the teacher in-charge?
Which school?
How many students are there in the group?
Are there some members (maybe yourself?) who is knowledgeable about the use of telescopes? Keen to DIY repair?

The set I have up for sale, is missing some parts and its azimuth drive is bad, so it cannot do GOTO.
Manual finding and pointing is required.
It is unfortunately also not ready for long exposure photography in general.
