Post by starfirez »

i currently own a erfle 16mm eye piece.. wanna get XL 7 (after seeing weixing's one) but realise 16mm with a barlow (which i will get sooner or later) is almost the same as a 7mm. thus i decide on xl 10.5. problem is all of them are discontinued. now i have a chance of getting a XL 14, but it is so close to my erfle.. thus i dunno wad to do now.. some advice pls? thanx... :(

Astromart is your answer. A few XL 10.5's do pop up every now and then. Just be patient and wait for one if you are really determined to get it.

Hi,
I think what you need most now is a tripod head that can give you slow motion control, so that you can navigate the sky more easily and accurately. Then get a 2x barlow and a few plossl eyepiece to use while you wait for your dream eyepiece.

Have a nice day.

huiting, after you get the slomo head (manfrotto 410 selling for $190 at cathay photo), you can try out my super stable manfrotto 058 tripod during our TSN obbing session to mount the OTA (heard your current tripod can not take off the head). I will stick with my surveyor tripod.

Huiting, I tried long time to get 10.5 xl on astromart...at the end I gave up & got 10 mm radian instead which is equally good (smaller AFOV though, 60 compared to 65 of xl's). If you are looking for 10.5 xl on astromart, be prepared for the long haul and would also be pricey, you would have to act really fast to close the deal as these disappear fast once put up on sale and generally these are put up at night time Singapore.

I would prefer XL 14 in your situation.

mwehehe... agree with Chunghooi
buy ze XL! buy em all!
*grinz*

The XLs will be an absolute treat thru your FC76. 14mm is great for star clusters and other wide-field DSOs for your scope's F/L. As a rough guide, thru your scope, the Beehive cluster would fit into the 14mm's FOV. I feel that the XL is best enjoyed on a stand-alone basis - without barlow-ing.

Hehe... ponder on what kind of magnification you'll like to achieve ya....

Darst! Didn't get a chance to take a photo of our scopes together at SP during the Venus transit. The shot would have been like the 'twin effect'

wah.. w/o the barlow then must get so many eyepieces.. i'll just die lolx. it has just hit me that i don't really like high magnification.. it is so troublesome using my scope cos of its small aperture, it'll require a very small eye piece and the image will move out so quickly, even before i can focus! thus i think the max i wanna achieve now is probably around a low 100. i've been thriving happily with my 38x for quite sometime now haha. can just look thru other ppl's scope for high mag.

our scopes wont look like twin one!! muahahaha cos my scope got a sexy black sock on it that yours don't have  and thanx a lot for ur red umbrella haha.
