CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!
Here is something new from the galactic processing oven....a Seyfert II galaxy in the Ursa Major domain....M106. There are a couple of other peripheral galaxies in the view too.
Details:
AP130GT, G11, R:70, G:40, B:40
Full res crop focusing on M106.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Jay, with some recent clear sky periods, the data was all captured from Malaysia. But with more exposures, should be able to bring out more details on the arm structure in M106. The galaxy on the right looks like a smaller version of NGC4565. Wasn't expecting that to happen in the same FOV... M106 could be seen (albeit faintly) through the miniborg 50 guidescope that night.
Great shot and details, Remus.
Reminds me of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy..the part where they describe the end of the universe is like water draining out of a bathtub..

Thanks Rich and Kelvin. Was looking back at the image again and thought it was interesting to investigate the faint patches of background galaxies. Have uploaded an annotated version (not fully exhaustive!). Some of these galaxies belong to the Catalogue of Principal Galaxies (PGC) and the faintest I can see could be up to magnitude 18.7. It is just amazing how many galaxies there are in Ursa Major region alone (excluding the big boys of Leo, Virgo, etc)!
