Our group got back late this afternoon from Telok Sari, after a traditional stop-over lunch at KFC in Mersing.

In brief, the skies were very clear over the 2 nights we were there. This was quite rare.

I arrived with the vans from Singapore (Ngee Ann Poly pick-up point) at around 1am on Fri night (i.e. early Sat morning). The skies were almost completely cloud free then. I was told that it had cleared up at around 10pm.

From the time I arrived at 1am till around 5am, the Milky Way stretched across the sky for a span of about 120 degrees for hours, practically uninterrupted. It was quite similar the 2nd night, with the skies cleared up from about 9pm onwards, with the clearest at 11pm to 1am when it was high overhead.

The obs site was a grassy/sandy area just in front of the chalet about 50m from the beach. The chalet is itself within the old fields with the tall coconut trees that I've observed from maybe 15-20 times since around year 2000.

Unfortunately, I did not bring any dSLR this time round (probably the only time that has happened). I hope others will post their photos, esp wide field ones.

Here are 2 group photos.

looks like another fruitful Mersing trip! very nice group shots, Gavin! Luck was on us again, but this time, even more - had over 16 hours of total clear sky time for this 3D2N expedition! couldn't ask for more.... thanks to everyone who came and helped out in one way or another to make the trip a success!

here are some pictures taken of the expedition taken with the camera phone....
