The spot where the photos were taken was roughly where us Singastro members would observe from during the past several years.
The last time I was at the field was in May 2008, i.e. just over 3 years ago. In 2009, obs were done at Sedili, and in 2010 obs were done at Pungai and Kahang.
Notice that the landmark tall coconut trees are gone. Looking back at old photos, I'm quite certain that the new chalet (where we stayed during this past weekend's expedition) is built
on where those coconut trees were or is perhaps just a few metres due south of that.
When I first heard about the new chalet about 1-2 years ago, I thought it was a large resort (with tennis courts, tall buildings etc) that completely ruined the place.
This is not so, for the skies this past weekend showed that the place still very much qualifies as a dark-sky site.
However, the consensus seems to be that the site at the Kahang farm at its best is a darker site now, but that place can be subject to some fog at night sometimes (which is not a problem at Telok Sari).
Overall sky conditions aside, I think if one were to observe outside of the
chalet in our old obs area, there could be the problem of local light sources from the chalet being a distraction. So perhaps some type of screening would be useful to bring along.
