New Astronomy Expedition in Desaru!

Post by rcj »

Hi all!

I'm helping to deseminate information on an upcoming astronomy expedition in a new location in Desaru after some discussion with Carole.

The proposed period of the expedition is chosen to be on the weekend of 28 to 30th of October 2011. The location will be at Damai Beach Resort (Desaru). The itinerary and timetable will be similar to that of Punggai trips. We will leave on Friday evening and be back on Sunday mid-afternoon. Trip fees of SGD$180.00 will cover twin-sharing a/c accommodation, 2-way transport, and most meals. Do note that besides stargazing (should the weather not cooperate), there are lots of other possible activities at the resort, such as cycling, horse-riding, jet skiing, or even go on a short fishing/kelong trip!

Do contact Ms Carole Aw at yenaw at pacific dot net dot sg for more information and registration.

Hmm its facing East, and what i have gathered the lights can be switched off.
But what i'm worried is that there might be other visitors as the area looks big lol So Lights out might not be so possible. The building appears to be quite tall also, blocking west effectively.

the resort is near Golden Beach Resort. I cannot comment on Damai's exact light pollution character (in this case referring to any regional light domes, excluding local sources), but if it is near to GB, it should have similar light domes character. I would say similar to punggai, but it is a bigger place, and able to house more future participants. The current punggai resort only has 10 chalet units, and for the upcoming end-sept expedition, we are seeing numbers closing in to 50....so it might be a good time to explore larger resorts near the area for future big expeditions.

LOL! That swing in the first picture needs some work to be done before anyone would want to sit on it. Makes it a little child un-friendly, just in case some of us wanna bring family along.
