Some Jupiter Shots

Post by ebeyonder »

Hello all,

I finally found some time to shoot Jupiter with a colour camera I recently acquired. Because my alignment isn't good, this really helped a lot instead of having to capture 3 colours using my previous monochrome and having to deal with considerable image shifts between filter.

I hope you enjoy the pictures!

I also attempted to make an animation of about 14 frames over 2.5 hours:

(For some reason the animation isn't well processed; a video is below)

Thank you, Gary. I used a C11 with a DBK camera.

It was taken last Sat night/Sunday morning. I didn't use Barlow but blew up the image by two times.

Oh. THAT saturday evening/sunday morning. Haha. Thanks for the info. I wanted to know what kind of imaging can a C11 do under what kind of seeing conditions in Singapore.

Wow. That's really nice.

I know this may be a silly question, but what is that white line on the left of the photos?

I rotated images and those are the accumulated edges of images, I think.

Hi ebeyonder,

I came across this article "Oh, those crazy satellites" in the Sep 2011 edition of Astronomy magazine, and think this might be what your white line is.

A floating corpse. I'm copying and pasting bits and pieces of info from the article:

"The broad category of tumblers consist of deceased satellites, spent rockets, collision fragments, and other such objects.....They appear as "moving stars" sailing across the constellations at a steady pace without a murmur. Because satellites shine with reflected sunlight, they may brighten or fade as the viewing angle between the Sun, the satellite, and your eyes changes during a pass....For instance, if the satellite has a highly reflective component, you may see the "moving star" swell in brightness as sunlight bounces off that surface....Watching a tumbler reminds me of watching the Sun glint off the windshield of a distant boat as it bobs and rocks across a choppy sea."

That streak in your photo resembles the ones in the magazine. Just a thought, I could be wrong. But in any case, if it was indeed a tumbler you captured, guess that was your lucky day (night)!

:)
