ok
ok guys, this is a physics thing and i reckon i know what the book newbgalore is talking about
basically, draw 2 straight lines, one towards the magnetic north pole and the other towards the true north pole from the centre of the earth. what you end up with is a sector and the angle subtended by these 2 lines of the segment is 11degrees.
the distance of 1224.5km as quoted is actually very simply the arc length of the sector as mentioned above.
if you look at the formula, it's actually a proportion calculation.
11/360 is the proportion of the angle subtended with respect to one round around the earth. multiply it by pi and then 2 times of 6378 actually gives the circumference of the earth. so the answer is actually an arc length
Guys, the 11 deg angle between true and magnetic north is correct only if u happen to be in the centre of the earth and I guess few will be setting up a mount in that unlikely location.
The magnetic deviation in Singapore is 1 deg or less.
