What CCD can see

Post by kochu »

It was a lousy night as usual ,last Saturday, at Jurong west. Very hazy, though not cloudy. I could hardly see Deneb, Well, my CCD camera could see some thing, when I tried out my Meade AR-6 Achro which I never had an opportunity to try out. It was in Sale Market for the last 4 or 5 years and no one bothered to look at it a second time even though it was offered for a throw away price.

Now I have decided to keep it as I see that for HA images CA is not a problem.

This is not a CCd standard image, but I think for the quality of the sky on last Saturday, it is not totally disappointing. At least , the stars are round for 15 minutes guiding with my 2X barlowed 350 mm FL Toy-scope.

Image details- Pelican Nebula- Scope Meade AR-6 Achro @ 1200 mm FL, Camera QSI 583, Filter 5 Nm Astrodon Ha,
Guide Camera Meade DSI, 6 subs of 15 minutes each,
Mount Atlas contolled by EQMOD, Imaged and processed using Maxim DL 5.
Now I am hopeful of getting good result on a decent night when I can atleast see stars visually .

Problem was always the weight of the Achro :) Unfortunately while I'd love the 6" of unobstructed aperture, the mounting requirements was also increased due to its weight. Otherwise I'd have bought it :) 6" of Achro shoudl outperform 3-4" of APO on DSOs any day.

Hi Kochu. Very nice attempt! Don't get to see photos from 6" achro so frequently. Thanks for sharing.
