Baader Stronghold vs ADM Max Guider

Post by kaomoo »

Seeking fellow forumers' opinion on the above.

Had a big fright recently while trying to line up my guidescope with the scope pointing new zenith.

I am using a ADM guidescope kit at the moment. So while trying to line up the guidescope to a guide star, my entire guidescope (ST80, with a GSO Crayford, Orion Flip mirror, Orion illuminated reticle EP & Celestron autoguider) slipped down rack. Thankfully the dew shield caught the screws and stop the slip.

Needless to say my heart was in my throat briefly

I started looking out for X-Y axis mount solutions and came up upon the above. The 2 are both X-Y axis adjustable. Is anyone using them at the moment? Opinion with regards to stability and bulk?

Can't really find enough discussion with regards to guiderscope support system. Decided to plonk the money down for a Baader stronghold. Both operates on similar principles. ADM's is piggyback on its support system and isn't very clear about it's mounting option and hence I decided to go with the Baader's. Hunting down one prove to be a tad difficult. Eventually got one from http://www.teleskop-express.de.

Just arrived today and can't wait to slap it on

At the moment it's still mounted on a Vixen dovetail plate and clamped with a saddle. When I get around it, will be mounting it without the dovetail and saddle to lighten the weight. Once I get the change to try out will report back.
