Hi,
A little off topics here... Anyway, Vixen GP mount is rate at 7kg. Able to take Meade 8" SCT... according to VinSnr.
Have a nice day.

Weixing, the OTA alone is 19lbs (8.6kg) - http://www.buytelescopes.com/product.asp?pid=4584 (OTA is the same as LX200 I believe). Plus, you need to consider the finder, guider (if any), diagonal, and eyepiece weight as well. Better get a C8 or a better mount (GM8?)

Ok let me clear this. There is no problem for a GP mount to handle a 8" SCT. A finder and other accessories is no problem. Of course I don't expect you to mount another 3 inch scope on top if you are using a GP mount.
As long you balance it well, there is no problem. If there is more vibration than you like, then get a wood tripod or a pier. Cheaper upgrade than getting a GM8. And I can tell you that transporting that GM8 is no joke.
standard gp mount comes with 3.7kg counterweights. u need 5.5kg(wierd size, provided by celestron long ago in the sp-c8 combo) and some luck to balance a c8 on the older sp mounts, not sure how much u need to balance the meade on the newer gp mounts. it seems that the gp mounts need slightly lesser counterweight than the older sp mounts.
Anyway, I'm looking for a portable scope that can give a low magnification wide view and high magnification without false colour. My current scope is already capable of doing that, but I want a bigger scope... more light grathering power. Vixen R200SS fit my requirement and is just 71.1 cm in length, weight only 5.3kg and I can use back all my eyepieces and mount without problem... Need to start saving for it now.
Have a nice day.
