Clouds day (night)off

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Clouds day (night)off

Post by kochu »

Last night , all off a sudden clouds seemed decided to take a night off. In fact, just in the evening we had decided to cancel a trip to Sedili as sky looked awful. Just lost a week end chance.

Anyway I decided to make use of the night, just just for trying out a 6.3 SCT reducer on 120 ED. I had to make a short adaptor to get the QSI to focus on the setup. The results appear promising.
The night developed to be quite productive. I could get pilot shots of three objects ( lot more data required ), up to about 4.30 in the morning, till clouds started rolling in.

All images on Ha. EQ6/EQdir/SW ED120 with F 6.3 SCT FR/QSI 583ws/Astodon 5nm Ha filter.. Taken from Jurong West Singapore on 29 th Oct 2011

Yes Kevin, :D No need to drift align, can skip many routines. Only problem is, cannot go and sleep after programming exposures... [smilie=falling-asleep.gif] ...One never knows when the clouds will roll in and start to rain. [smilie=bad-atmosphere.gif]

Thanks Remus,

I can only see north and Zenith from my place. . So no way other than to go to Malaysia to view Eta Carena and rest of southern beauties..

I have taken some LRGB exposures also of B33, on the same night, but still to learn how to merge Ha with LRGB.

Hi Gary, I have a roll on roll off set up.. but cannot operate when scope is up, as awning level is just above parking position od mount....an oversight in design.

Brgds
