how much weight can these surveyor tripods carry?

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

how much weight can these surveyor tripods carry?

Post by orly_andico »

can they carry.. 70lb? (25lb payload + 15lb counterweights + 30lb mount head)

i'm thinking of replacing the alu legs on the one i "borrowed" from Kevin with wooden 1" x 3" legs, and adding a sturdy tripod spreader/tray which i would attach with heavy-duty door hinges.

those Catamount Systems tripods are so darn pretty [smilie=admire.gif] and the TRI36L weighs only 9lb but can carry 200lb..! the darn thing costs more than an entry-level GoTo mount though [smilie=beaten.gif]

No way to much weight .
, I have one under my HEQ5 and Saxon 150mm f/8 refractor , I dont know the weight of these two , but it carries them easily , so long as the ground is soft enough for the legs to get a grip .
On a slippery surface its feet wont stay in place and a small nudge will move the whole lot .
I like it as a set up tho . hope this helps.

I am a bit embarrassed to admit.. but I am currently using Kevin's marginal surveyor tripod.. with a chopping board spreader and a home-made low latitude wedge to boot.. (I really have a thing for 'em chopping boards..)

It can carry my Orion 100ED well enough for 20-minute subs.. haven't tried the C9.25 on it. But the weather's pretty bad, so I don't have any urgent need for a better tripod. It can sit till the weather gets better, I have other amusements cough Skyrim cough to keep me busy..

That mount looks so luxurious...... it deserves an equally slick looking wedge and tripod, or pier! ;)

Nah, the paint is chipping on it. In those days, anodizing was unknown! [smilie=admire2.gif]
