TEC Telescopes

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

TEC Telescopes

Post by andeelym »

Anyone any experience with TEC telescopes (http://www.telescopengineering.com)?

I am thinking of saving up for a TEC APO110FL. The reviews are very favourable and in some reviews they suggests that it outperforms Takahashis.

Hello,

I'm in Bangkok, Thailand. I'm using a TEC-140 for visual and imaging with dedicated FF for TEC-140. It is very good optical quality. The contrast is the best. color correction is just behind Takahashi TOA-130 but optical quality as I look through. I believe, it is better than TOA-130 at high power in Jupiter, Mars. More contrast, sharper. At Sirius, Vega, it shew very little color fringe in magenta if you use very high power 250X or more. Other star that is not O spectral type, you will not see any color error at all even in rim of the bright Moon, Jupiter, Venus.

Don't worry about CCD imaging with TEC. There is no chromatic aberration in the photo at all.

I don't have a TEC-110FL. I love it but never use them. I'm very impressed TEC reputation.

Wow great! The TEC 140 is the only one that has no flourite element. Would also like to know if the flourite element really justifies the price.

Thank you for your feedback.

TEC is sometimes regarded as a future Astro Physics, so they must be really good.
The 110 must be a fantastic scope but if you're in that price range for AP, I suggest perhaps a used Televue NP101 or Tak 106 Q.
The benefit is integral flat field thanks to its petzval design and used they can be had for under US2.5K.
I have an NP101 and its virtually colorless and has a perfect star test. It's more scope than my skills!

If you have a plan to observer the Sun using Herschel Wedge prism, please don't forget to know that any refractor using Petzval design or some kind like that which built-in field flattener/reducer can not use couple with a HerschelWedge prism.

Hi,lepus
Good that you are interested in the sun;but do be reminded that if you are using the Herschel Wedge prism to look at the sun,you need ADDITIONAL filters to protect your precious eyes.A few uv/ir cut filters at least followed by somemore ND filter--if unsure, put your camera at the EP instead of your EYE first to gauge the level of the light.Take care.!

I have a friend in Manila who has been using a Intes Herschel wedge for years with an NP-101. And he's happy. He does use an ND filter.
