Kodak on way to bankruptcy

Post by kochu »

Saw a news item yesterday that the financial situation of Kodak is real bad . May be bankruptcy is on cards.

Wonder what will happen to Kodak CCD based astro cameras.

Looks like CMOS will take over.

BTW never knew that SBIG is owned by Avi-Tech Electronics Limited, headquartered in Singapore, but assembles in China.

The acquisition of SBIG by Aplegen took place around 11 February early this year. The CEO Ron Bissinger himself is also an avid amateur astronomer.

On Kodak, perhaps some other companies will acquire it instead?

Well, the situation does not appear to be very healthy but neither is Kodak on their deathbed. They are in process of rationalizing their core business to stay profitable.
Looks lik they just sold their FF sensor facility.

So sad when a popular icon has to end up like that. I still have a 1970s era Kodak film camera..

I guess if its a profitable part of the business, someone will buy it out.
On the other hand, if its loss making, then it will simply be stopped and Kodak sensors will be a thing of the past.

Latest on Kodak Sensor division.

What was Kodak's sensor division is now known as Truesense Imaging, Inc. It was
sold off prior to the bankruptcy filing. The sensor division is profitable
which is likely why it was sold, because it had value and so it wouldn't
get tangled up in the bankruptcy. The entire team of employees at
Truesense is intact and excited about the future.
