H-Alpha Solar Images for May 12

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

H-Alpha Solar Images for May 12

Post by yltansg »

This picture was taken on 28 May 12 at 5pm. Sunspot 1492 (it is just slightly under the 12O'clock position) is crackling with C-class solar flare. Besides the SS1492, the rest of the Sun is relatively quiet.

Thanks to Roma for your feedback and Gary and Remus for encouragement.

I hope to set up 3 scopes for Venus Transit at NUS on 6 June:

1. First Station – Video recording of Venus Transit from 2 scopes on 2 separate notebooks. Crowd can view real-time video recording.

a. Mount: iEQ45 with dual saddle.
b Scope 1: Megrez90 with SM90 etalon and blocking filter – with DBK41AU02.AS camera (Netbook)
c. Scope 2: Borg 76mm with SF50 – with DMK41AU02.AS camera (Dell notebook)

2. Second Station – Visual Observation/broadcast and past solar images to 50 cm LCD Screen. Crowd can either view the Sun through eyepiece or on the LCD screen (if there are too many people). If the clouds are in the way, we can also show past-recorded solar images on the TV screen.

a. Mount: Vixen Porta Mount
b. Scope: Coronado SM90 scope with BF15 filter – with Samsung video camera connected to a 50cm LCD monitor.

Weather permitting I will post HA images of the transit from Station 1 :)

See you there :)

Zoom in on Prom at 2 O'clock. The proms look very active. Unfortunately the Sun set soon after I started imaging.

Outstanding! Will be amazing to capture proms near egress of Venus Transit. :)
