Hi, try to getting started my long overdue into Astrophotography. Need to know what type of filter's for capturing DSO's images.
Will be using my Canon 5D MkII and the sequence for post processing. Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Roland

Hi Elton,
Do I need to modified my camera or just add the astronomik CL clip filter?

Hi,
Have a nice day.
I think most EOS Clip on filter don't work on full frame camera... only crop camera. So you need to install the filter on the T-Adapter filter thread and since you are using a full frame camera, you should use 2" filter.roma_my wrote:Hi Elton,

yo, modding the camera will enhance the sensitivity in HA. But its a MK2 lol you might be doing normal photography with it. yup clip on filters dunno can fit full frame anot. but on my 500d it works fine.

I use an Astronomik UHC filter for emission nebulae in Singapore.
When I'm doing broadband objects like reflection nebulae, clusters or galaxies, it might be a better idea to use a petrol filter..... up to Mersing or Sedili...

clip-on filters won't work on a full-frame.
i use an IDAS LPS-V4 (note it has to be a "V4") which works very well for emission nebulae in SG. it's like an H-alpha filter but less aggressive. i don't think you can use an H-alpha filter on an unmodded DSLR because the DSLR has an IR-cut filter. so the V4 would definitely work better, how much better I don't know for sure (I use it on a QHY8, which has no IR cut filter).

All you want to know about filters, like what to use for what objects , can be found in this site. Check the relevant chapters under Filter research.

What type of filter when you mentioned a petrol filter?
