Name : Omega Centauri or NGC 5139 is a globular cluster in the constellation of Centaurus
-------------------------------
Constellation: Centaurus
Magnitude: 3.7
Angular Size: 36.3'.
Object details:
Omega Centauri is in a class by itself. Having a mass of 5 million suns, Omega Centauri is 10 times
more massive than a typical globular cluster. Omega Centauri sports a diameter of 230 light-years, this
bejewelled stellar city sparkling with perhaps 10 million stars.Omega Centauri may be a remnant of a
small galaxy that merged with the Milky Way.
Omega Centauri is one of the few globular clusters visible to the naked eye and appears about as large
as the full Moon.
A 2008 study presented evidence for an intermediate-mass black hole at the center of Omega Centauri,
based on observations made by the Hubble Space Telescope and Gemini Observatory on Cerro Pachon in Chile
