Eastern Veil Nebula from Sedili

Post by kochu »

Image

Name : NGC 6992 The Eastern Veil Nebula

Constellation: Cygnus

Object details:

The Eastern Veil (NGC 6992) is a supernova remnant that is part of a larger complex that includes the

Western Veil (NGC 6960). It is estimated that the supernova explosion occured about 10,000 years ago

The full Veil Nebula complex is one of the most spectacular supernova remnants in the sky. The entire

shell spans about 3 degrees on the sky, corresponding to about 6 full moons.

The brighter, eastern portion can be seen in binoculars from a dark site as a long curving hazy streak

of light. Experienced observers under truly dark skies may be able to detect the western portion as

well. OIII filters help.

Hi,
WOW!! Beautifu!! [smilie=admire2.gif] [smilie=good-job.gif]

I first saw this in one of my Chinese Astrophoto book I brought many years ago. It's call "网状星云“ in Chinese, meaning "net like nebula". Another must see object under dark sky.

Thanks for sharing and have a nice day.

Kochu, the tonality between the reflective and emissive portions have been segregated very well. A very fine image indeed! Looks like the Sharpstar is a keeper! Cheers!

Hi Remus,

I never tried Guiding through Maxim. I find using PHD/DSI setup easier. Moreover I do not have WSG.
