CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!
There are a couple of sunspots with 'beta-gamma' magnetic fields that harbor energy for M-class solar flares. The other interesting thing is the presence of a huge prominence about 20 Earth diameter in size.
Such structures are naturally unstable, and I was hoping that I could catch it collapsing but the clouds came

As pointed by Mr Chia, Sunspot 1515 was the one to watch. It flared on 3 July but I missed it. It continued to be active but I was either busy or it was cloudy. Finally on Sunday there was a small window of 15 minutes at 3 pm folllowed by a 1.5 hours from 5 to 6:30 pm.
First the full disk - not much, we can see Sunspot 1515 departing and several prominences.
Then I took 130 video clips of 15 seconds with 10 second interval. I am glad I did it - Finally I caught a flare in action on video.
This is how I did it - From these I produced 130 frames on SS1515 using Registax and used Dave Video Stabliser to produce the following video clip.
You can watch it on https://vimeo.com/45444774. Do a right click on the video screen and turn Loop On. Enjoy.

Hi,Alfred
Nice images and thanks for sharing.Yes,1515 was a pretty active spot and I observe that within 15 minutes
filaments can appear and disappear completely around the main spot. Now the one to look out for is 1520.The spot is showing
daily changes in shapes and has GREAT potential--not just for flare, but with flare'dark' moving clouds appearing right on top of the sunspot and that
kind of video will be fantastic.Your video is GREAT--I dont have the IT skill to produce that--and so keep it coming.
One thing--pretty frustrated with the daytime cloudy sky these 2 days.Thanks.
