Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!
1) When doing alignment, the weasner ETX site claims tat if u use a compass n bring near it to do alignment, the internal magnet in ETX will affect the compass pointing iz true?
2) If I do not setup a go to scope on flat ground will it affect the pointing accuracy.
8) Hope to get an answer soon as I have not really use ETX goto capability, I hav always aim manually.
those 2 points are absolutely true! any compass will be affected not only by other magnets but any metal around. the deflection might not seem significant, but why put in more errors than need be into your alignment? just keep your compass a hands breath away from the scope.
same for flat ground. if you expect your etx to do reasonably accurate go-tos you need to do a proper set up. it should be ok if the ground is not perfectly flat, i've never used a spirit level to check for my own etx, and i cant imagine why anyone would want to go observing on an obvious slope anyway.
this should answer your questions, pretty straight forward.. err, i imagine it must be a real pain using your etx manually..
