Depending on their rising and setting time in a relatively clear dark sky, these are the objects that can be seen in a typical stargazing session in Singapore (including the brightly lit Toa Payoh Central):

- Planets and Moon
- Star Clusters (Tight grouping of stars with some forming interesting imaginary shapes.)
- Double Stars (A pair of stars that appears to be close together.)
- Globular Clusters (A tight circular grouping of stars in the hundreds and thousands.)
- Nebulae (Cosmic cloud of dust and gases.)
- Galaxies (The biggest grouping of stars and stellar remnants. Very tough to see but not impossible under good conditions.)

Thanks to all who came for the sidewalk event last night. Had lots of fun.

Finally a clear night in October! Was clear initially at 7.45pm, got hazy later for about an hour, then clear again for rest of the night till about 3 am+.

Binoviewed Moon, Jupiter. Manage to see the Europa occultation with Clifford at about midnight. So cute, like a small white pimple on the limb of Jupiter. Had fun splitting Castor in the Mak127 and to re-assure myself its collimation did not suddenly went out for a period of neglect. :) Glad to meet and chat with another singastro lurker and advised him to hang out with some veteran members here staying around his area. :)

Tried Dave's 15x70 Celestron SkyMaster on Moon. Very nice. No collimation issue, false color almost negligible on the bright clear Moon. Too late to try it on Pleiades as it was a working day tomorrow for Dave (and most S'poreans :)) and not nice to make him stay late. :)

As usual, it was a triple happy whammy for some bystanders - to see the Moon's surface so clearly and to be amazed even just by the idea it can be captured in their mobile phone. And finally, zooming in to see the craters of the captured images in their own phone in their own hands.

Around 1.30am+, a bunch of young bikers came to take a look at Jupiter and Orion Nebula. Amazed as usual. Among them, there is a teenage who is particularly very keen and excited to see Jupiter and stars through the scope for the first time. So I had a great time showing him how to use my telescope and chatting astro with him with the help of BBC Sky At Night Beginners' Guide to Astronomy (I think I got back my $23.84 worth by now:)).

I found out his late father was also into astronomy and had a old telescope still in the house. He think the scope is spoiled. I gave him my contact number and told him I will try to take a look and help him to fixed it if necessary. My intention is to help him re-connect and relive with the wonderful memories of his Dad by being able to use his Dad's telescope again.

There is also a bystander who manage to saw 2 meteors why I was chatting with the teenage. Haz and friend manage to catch 4 while lying at a bridge at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park around the same time!

Also quite happy one of my twitter follower got a little inspired to use her telescope to observe the Moon at home and shoot it with her mobile phone and shared it with her followers.

One of the great bonus of doing sidewalk in a particular area near one's house regularly over the years is the familiar friendly faces you meet on a day to day basis. We may not know each other's names but a warm smile and a quick nod towards each other says it all - we must have met before during a previous sidewalk session. After a while, it is actually quite funny to see their next reaction immediate whenever they see me walking around in Toa Payoh - looking up in the sky!

Here are some photos from my twitter taken with my mobile phone camera:
