Free Stargazing Talk at TPY Library 21 and 23 Sept 2012

Thanks!! Hope you and your kids enjoyed the talk and are most welcomed to join any of the singastro stargazing sessions! Or better still, start one near your area with your kids when you own a telescope. Your kids's cool reputation in school will go straight through the roof.

Yes. I also wish there was more time. And that's why we have an encore session tonight with another mini singastro gathering from those who did not make it on Friday! I will start on time at 7.30pm sharp tonight! I will be explaining more fun stuff and do live demo/tutorial of Stellarium which I did not manage to find time to do on friday. Will try to make the room even darker for best effect.

There will be another impressive display of telescope setups too! So come join us again if you are free and celebrate a memorable stargazing Mid-Autumn festival this year!

Big thanks to all who came and supported the event on the actual days and behind the scenes! Especially James & friend, Weixiong, Alfred, Yuan Huan, Peter, Hazrie, Dave and Ava. And of course the very friendly and helpful Toa Payoh librarians.

We had a bigger crowd last night then Friday. Thanks to the word of mouth advertising by the audience and sidewalk session on friday, official NLB tweets and various retweets by various followers, TPY facebook, ...etc. Started the talk at 7.30pm and ended at 9.00pm. This time managed to incorporate the advise given by astro friends after Friday's inaugural talk and engage the audience further with more videos and live Stellarium demonstrations.

If not for time constraints, would love to incorporate the use of the Visualiser device and demo on the big screen the astro apps on my phone. We still so many interesting and fun ideas and can't wait to execute them in future talks.

Moon was not as clear compared to the past 2 nights but at least visible! After the talk, the crowd had a great time interacting with us and photographing the Moon with their phones.

The star of the talk and sidewalk is no doubt James's classic 8-inch GOTO SCT. The slewing speed and responsiveness will put some modern mounts to shame. Had a look at Moon through it and details shown were amazing. Esp after looking at my 80mm before that. Tracking was very good considering there were no stars visible to do proper alignment.

Brought back wonderful memories of loaning the binoviewer from Clifford and observing the last quarter Moon with it through my 8" SCT at the 12th storey public rooftop garden at Toa Payoh block 79. The moment I saw it, almost forgotten the surname of my mother! And the initial intention was just trying to do something to kill time while waiting for something else interesting to show up!
