Help! Tak mounts at low latitudes

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Help! Tak mounts at low latitudes

Post by orly_andico »

hi all

would like to ask the Tak owners on the forum how you deal with our low latitude.

I know that the NJP at least has an option low-latitude fork. However that is not the mount I have in mind (it's extremely heavy and non-portable).

I also know the EM-200 has a mid-latitude fork, but it only goes down to 10 degrees.

Anyone?

I have seen a modified EM10 before used here in one of the schools in Singapore. What was done was to turn the mount head 180deg and fitted back onto the base of the mount head. There appeared to be a need to drill one hole to accommodate the altitude bolt adjustment. You can try asking Albert with regards to the EM200 since he has one. If you would like to see the modified EM10, you could arrange with Mooey.

I believe if you order from takahashi directly you can specify modification for zero degree latitude.

I'm using modified em11 for zero degree lat, but i've also ditched the tripods for a single customized pier system (saves $$ in the long run). Each mount i have has an adaptor that fits onto the pier. A latitude offset can then be made into the adaptor if desired.
