Re: Bishan Park sidewalk astronomy - tonight (14/12/2012)
Hi Friends,
Some pictures i took yesterday (14/12/2012)
A tribute to the late Sir Patrick Moore,

Jupiter with C41 (Hyades)
The Caldwell list was compiled by the late Sir Patrick Caldwell-Moore.The Caldwell Catalogue is an astronomical catalog of 109 bright star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies for observation by amateur astronomers.
He quickly compiled a list of 109 objects (to match the number of objects in the Messier Catalogue) and published it in Sky & Telescope in December 1995. Since its publication, the catalogue has grown in popularity and usage within the amateur astronomical community.
Small compilation errors in the original 1995 version of the list have since been corrected. Moore used his other surname to name the list as M for Moore was already taken by Messier, and the catalogue adopts "C" numbers to rename objects with more common designations.
Other Pictures Taken:

Orion Wide

M42 Orion Nebula

M45 7 Sisters (wide)

M45 7 Sisters
All shots were taken using a Canon G1X piggy back on a ST80 without tracking.
Regards,
Dave Ng

Nice photos! Thanks for sharing.
Another crazy clear night in-between light drizzles. Andromeda was so easy to star hop to and observe in the ST80 even with the McDonald's lights shining nearby. Double Clusters look amazing through it with the proper framing and magnification. So easy to count 6 stars in Pleiades with naked eyes. Too bad didn't have a binocular around to observe Kemble's Casacade. Thanks to Jeremy for showing us Jupiter through his 5" triplet. Reminded me of how amazing Jupiter looked last Saturday at Toa Payoh. But the ultimate visual highlight for me that night was seeing the Trapezium's E and F star in Dave's C6!

Also had a nice comparison of eyepieces in two ST80s and the Celestron eyepiece with XLT coating performed better than the generic Plossl 500 (not Meade 5000 series). The stars were noticeably sharper. Can't notice it initially until I tried to look through one for a longer period of time and quickly switch over to the other. The upgraded crayford focuser on the ST80 was a real joy to use. It was smoother than the stock focuser. Forgot to try the binoviewer on it though.

Baby scope on a baby seat.
Happy to finally catch my first few meteors in Bishan Park and glad Fung Ling and her friend did too. The bright one beside Sirius at 3:04 am (15 dec) was beautiful. Nice to hear meteor sightings from friends and netizens - some of them just stepped out of a building and saw a big bright one right in front of them, others caught them while driving in car.
The public enjoyed the wonderful views of Jupiter and the open star clusters. Can smell the "poison" in the air. A few of them were really keen to own their first telescope soon and asked a lot of related questions. The non-intimidating looks of the ST80s must have played a major role. And of course our #1 recommendation is Singastro's Buy and Sell forum.
Thanks to Dave for organising the event and others for coming to support with and without scopes. Had a great time interacting with new and old friends. Special thanks to Elton for the informative chat and advise on how to clean mirrors. Will find the cheapest mirror in my collection and give it a try.
