Milky Way spotted in Singapore.

Post by Chua He An »

Well actually this happened on August 8th 2012 at Sembawang. I never really thought it was possible to see the Milky Way in Singapore. All the photos have gone through heavy post-processing to bring out the detail.Even after all those post-processing it still appear to be quite faint.Hopefully you guys can spot it.Feel free to download this image but please ask for permission if you are going to publish it on the web :)

I have some problem embedding this images,so please download them from the links and view it from your computer :)

Hi He An,

To clarify, did you see the Milky Way then, i.e. visually with unaided eyes or with optical aid? Or managed to image it only?

I recall visually seeing the southern Milky Way faintly in the Canis Major- Puppis region (over the sea) abt 5+ yrs ago from near the SAF Yatch Club in Changi (Tanah Merah Coast Rd), with unaided eyes. Other than that, I don't recall seeing it from Singapore in the last 10 yrs. Such a rarity here!

Hi He An,

Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing these wonderful photos! I like the last one best. Looks even more impressive on my monitor compared to your phone screen!

If there is no privacy concerns, could you give more details on this exact location in Sembawang?

How did the afocal lunar photos turn out? Feel free to share with us by creating another thread here. :)

Hi starfinder

I only manage to see it after taking the photos.Even after taking this photos it still looks like very faint cloud to me and I could barely make it out.

Hello Gary

Thank you.I took this three photos at the field in front of Sembawang Sec Sch.However the lunar image did not turn out too well.It looks like it is out of focus. But I still can see detail such as the craters and its shadows.

Hi He An,

Have not seen Milky Way here since decades ago. What camera and setting did you use?
