here's a challenge for the AP'ers

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

here's a challenge for the AP'ers

Post by orly_andico »

the darn thing looks like the monster Cthulu (note this is a Hubble image)

Image

and is named after a semi-cute Dutch schoolteacher - http://www.hannysvoorwerp.com/?page_id=12

it is favorably placed right now (the galaxy above it, 15th magnitude IC 2497 in Leo Minor, transits at 1 a.m.)

now for the challenge - the galaxy, which is larger than the voorwerp, is smaller than the Eskimo Nebula. and is 15th magnitude (compared to the 9th magnitude Eskimo).

so capturing the Voorwerp will require a very long focal length, and very long exposures. at a dark site.

sounds like something i wanna try [smilie=admire.gif]

there are only 1 or 2 amateur images of the voorwerp out there...
