Good Friday Stargazing outside Toa Payoh Library-29 Mar 2013

Hi Friends,

*Weather permitting*, we will be conducting a free public stargazing session outside Toa Payoh Public Library this coming Friday 29 March 2013 from about 8:00pm.

Main target will be Saturn! There will be a friendly shootout between an interesting array of big and small "guns" on that evening!

Saturn and 18-day old Moon will be within 4 degrees! The power of small but wide-field capable scopes will also be showcased on that evening. Imagine seeing Saturn with its rings and moons and our Moon all in the same field of view! Yippee!

James will be able to stay very late that evening (most probably 2am++). His Gemini 2 GOTO mount was amazingly accurate as proven during the previous library stargazing talk event! Any suggestion or request what telescope(s) he should be bringing?

I am looking forward to a good showdown that night! All "challengers" are welcomed!

As usual, those without scopes are very welcomed to join in the fun and gain some useful experiential knowledge for your potential future scope purchases.

No worries. You have been doing sidewalk at Toa Payoh for a few sessions already. You should know by now there are plenty of spaces to set up beside James guns.

Hi Liquidice. This event (like all stargazing events) is extremely weather dependent. If it's cloudy on that evening, it can be cancelled at the very last minute. If clear, more telescopes might come then expected. On average, 4 telescopes will be there on a clear enough night.

Btw, the current weather for the past 48 hours is very bad.

So if you must fly down for this event, do manage your expectations. I suggest you treat this event as bonus if the sky is clear and plan your main trip visiting non-weather dependent attractions in our country.!

Great! Your enthusiasm will rejuvenate us!

If depardeuz can make it, he will be very happy to share his experience and tips of using this telescope. Having 2 same scope side-by-side is also very useful for comparing eyepieces without doing mental gymnastics trying to match magnification with telescopes of different focal length.

in case of rain, do you guys bringing your gear somewhere indoor as gathering over cup of coffee?
