Where are all the North West Zone Astronomers?

Post by lowrobin »

Hi to all!

Good Evening:

Try to organise something exciting in the North West Zone, but lack of participants, those who are two or three years experience in astronomy and at least have some decent instrument (minimum owned telescope ) and are currently staying in Woodland, Choa Chu Kang, Jurong, Bt.Batok and Bt.Panjang area are welcome.

For those who do not own any instrument may join in as associate members, because u need to have at least a bino to begin.

The objective to start the group in this area because we dont need to have much travelling time, secondly, we may even to start with some projects together and each of us may contribute our little way towards astronomy.

Would love to join you. We will need to source for more active members. Personally i feel that it's quite hard to find people who will go obbing all the time.

Weather, time and transportation pose a much bigger problem than actually owning equipment. Just 2 scopes is more than enough to entertain a small group of 10-20 people, but getting even 4 active people to join us in an observation is incredibly hard.

What i suggest is that we stick with small groups, preferbly 3-4 people initally, and hoping more people will be able to join us in the future.

So right now I'm calling out for people who would be active, people who would go obbing anytime of the year, as long as the skies is clear. Owning scopes would not be really important as we can easily share scope and views.

Let's fixed an observation venue near a public transport (MRT) so that those without their own transport (like me) can get home in the last trains.
For me, if location and time is good, AND the sky is good, i'll go for it.

Sam

I would love to join the BPGHS students, just across the street only. I live at block 473. I met your president at the previous venus transit, name was suppose to be Rong En or something. I didn't managed to get much info out of him. Hopefully you and Zhili will be able to provide me with more details.

But it seems that we will have quite abit of problem. I do not think any secondary school will allow just anyone to enter their premises, especially at such an akward time. I do not like the idea of going down as a group and getting chased out. Prehaps you should check with your teacher in charge and see if we can work around this problem.

Anyway, keep us updated on your observation sessions, and whether it would be possible to get permission from your school's authority to allow us to join you guys.

or else, will it be possible to take equipment out of your school, if we find a nice observing spot around the area? you'll be able to get more out of your scopes at a darker area, perhaps :D and also might have problems with regulation having on school grounds?..
