Unedited Solar Images from Jan 2012 onwards

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Hi,Acc and All
Yes,do agree that there is NO 1 to 1 correspondence and where it hit and when exactly it will hit is unpredictible.
Watching those band-in Cak-is in itself amazing. For example recently around the end of December 2012,the sun shows only one small spot but a whole bright band in Cak!
I certainly think that its cause by some particles shoot out from the sun.Hence it will depend on where on the sun it occured--whether its earth directed or not--what it is,that of cause depends on the type of activities on the sun and how is it oriented when it hits the earth magnetic/gravitational field.;and finally how it ,upon reaching earth atmosphere, interact with it.
Of course, the most important is the availibility of water/moisture in the atmosphere or in the case of earthquake, the availability of tectonic plate that is about to slip.
However keeping an open mind to this concept can help us be more alert during such upside in solar activities.Of cause, those who dont believe can do day as normal.,and do their remedial measure afterward.;like the 311 earthquake and acedamics disbelieve when warned by the Russian(correctly predicted the year as 2011)
prediction of occurrence of it way back in the 199'ies.Its my personal opinion ,always better to be alert.
For example,my wife was thinking of bringing the whole family out to HK, northern China this year end.I advise her not to because I know of this minicycle thing and the POSSIBILITY of being caught by bad weather--yes its only a possibility,it may hit US or Europe or somewhere else.Well,it did hit
China--those cold weather.I am glad and that it save me hundreds,if not thousands. This is my opinion.Thanks.

Hi Mr Chia,

Thanks for the headsup. Unfortunately the weather turned bad before I could do anything today. It is raining dogs and cats at noon now.

The following were taken yesterday (20 Apr 13, 3:30pm).

AR 1726 is the one in the middle, quite facing Earth directly. Caught it flaring yesterday (20 Apr 13)

A x3 zoom-in view of the flaring AR 1726.

Here is the CAK line image of the Sun. I am not quite happy with this image because I was expecting alot more plage near the flaring active region.

Will be waiting for the Sun to come out again today :)

Firstly,Thanks Gary for the upload.
Alfred, thanks for sharing those nice, clear photos.Definitely need more to join the solar
photo club!
Now,the photos--For the pass 2 days,sunspot 1726 had been ejecting gas and expanding.However
its Cak profile showed a limited affected regions;however this region 'flare' often by showing
small bright dots.--very interesting and unique sunspot.
Both in Ha,Cak;its suggest constant flaring and esp in Ha,it looks like the 'iron filing pattern' associated
with a magnet.Today, one of the pole seem to have stopped its gas ejection;but the other is still doing so.Will be submitting today's photo later together with those taken on march 15.-with flare--and between mar 15 and now, lots of places had quaked!Just wonder whats actually the sun is ejecting.

Hi Mr Chia and Dave,

Thanks for sharing your pictures. Together our pictures provide a more complete picture of the Sun :)

Mr Chia - the 540 nm images are great details on the sunspots.
Dave - good post-processing to bring out the disk details and prominence.

On 21 Apr 13, SS 1726 have indeed grown much bigger compared to the previous day. Unfortunately I missed it on 21 Apr 13. Clouds came and then the rain came when I had the time to look at it :(

Today I did some imaging from 2:30 to 3:30 pm. The weather turned bad before I started CAK line imaging.

Following are the HA images. AR1726 has moved slightly past the middle of the solar disk and shouldn't present any direct threat to Earth. It looked pretty bright in H-Alpha wavelength but I wasn't sure if it was flaring at the time I was imaging it. <Afternote: M-Class flare from AR1726 at 10:32 UT>. There are no significant prominences on the limbs.

Image

This is a zoom-in view of AR 1726. As pointed out by Mr Chia, we can see lines like those of magnetic flux on a magnet.

Image

Look forward to seeing your images.

Hi Alfred,

Thanks for sharing the photo of the sun today.
looks like AR1726 is rapid growing.

i did not manage to have a look/image today.
persistent cloud keeps on blocking the sun during my lunch time. [smilie=bad-atmosphere.gif]
