I've just acquired a vixen polaris mount, planned to put it on a portable pier, something in the same league as ken's kd2pier or astrosky's pier (http://www.astrosky.homestead.com/Astrosky.html). Can anyone advise where i can order one (i.e. fabricate locally) and how much will it probably cost?
Thanks!

Hi,
Your mount seem to be getting more and more bulky and more and more heavy...
I think you need to really think whether is this what you really want?? Will you really carry this pier around for observation??
While I try very hard to reduce my equipments weight and size, you seem to be doing just the opposite
.
Wish you luck and have a nice day.

1) Bought from astromart.ariefm71 wrote:- where did you fabricate it? can give me the contact person/no?I am using a portable pier for my LXD55. What do you need to know?
- how much?
- can post some pics?
thanks
2) About US$125.
3) pics? err...they all look the same isn't it. But mine is taller than the one you shown. If you are using a SCT with it...you certainly need a taller pier than the one shown....

Hi,

Have a nice day.
24"?? Good height for my Newtonian. But for your SCT, it a bit too low. Unless you plan to lay on the ground when observing near the zenith area.. hee heeyes, i'm using sct but i normally sit while observing, is 24" pier tall enough?

2 feet? No way dude.....ariefm71 wrote:yes, i'm using sct but i normally sit while observing, is 24" pier tall enough? If you are using a SCT with it...you certainly need a taller pier than the one shown....
Your upper body + the chair is already way taller than 2 feet....
Mine is about 4 feet and I already find it a little low...but I do it standing. So should be ok for sitting.
Those who uses two feet pier normally use them for reflectors.
Also, forget about doing this locally..it will cost a bomb unless you are a good friend to the machinist.
