6 July - M57 & IC1296

Post by orly_andico »

Saturday night was surprisingly clear. This is 58 minutes on M57 and IC 1296 (29 x 2 minutes, Astro-Tech AT90EDT, QHY8 unfiltered).

I was quite surprised to get IC 1296 in the field, albeit rather dim.

this is a crop of the central 800x600 as my refractor is too short (600mm focal length).

Nice shot! Thanks for sharing. For those who are patient and can have their equipment ready at short notice, Singapore skies can still be clear enough for some DSO AP. Did you try again on Sunday evening which may be clearer?

Will nebular be visible once I get my filters, cos so far all I can see are various star clusters?

Depends. In my experience, M57 is visible even without filtration if your telescope is large enough (I'm using a C9.25). But it is very dim. It is also impossible to get dark-adapted vision on my balcony.

In all cases you will not see any color.

Tried again a couple nights later (Tuesday night). This time with the C9.25 at native FL. This is only 5 subs X 4 minutes, guided (obviously) and center crop. It is flipped vertically because I put the camera on upside-down.
