CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

It is how many people, less fortunate than you, got to look through it."

Thanks Gary for the upload.
Now the photos-
These are photos of a single sunspot that survived 3 rounds across the surface of the sun--the longest so far for cycle 24's sunspots. Also it exhibit several interesting features.
1)Its very active for the first 2 rounds across the sun with sunspot core splitting into 2 and also small dark core
existing on the penumbra of the large sunspot. Also umbra takes all sorts of funny shapes.
2)The magnetic field associated with the sunspot also is interesting--for example,on the 11 Jan,the filament seen
suggest some kind of tornado structure--well tornado shape magnetic field?Interesting.
3)Photos in Cak shows and even larger active region and the constant showing of Cak prominences for the first 2 rounds.
Lots of other interesting features too.Hope you enjoy the sight.Thanks.
Hi,Lqx
Yes,almost daily at solar maximum and now once in 2 or 3 days. The sun is still quite active and as
experience from the previous cycle indicates,a big sunspot will come ocassionally--then will shot
daily or even hourly to capture the actions.
Also, you are right, the Cak images are very informative and frequently indicates upcoming flares
and pertubation to our weather pattern.
At max solar activities,3 scopes are deployed to capture the actions. Thanks
It is interesting to note that 11yrs ago ......starting 27 oct 2003 ....a similar huge sunspot occured and
Produce lots of flares.
2192 is slightly smaller than that at 2003..
...slightly less than 400,000 km in length, slightly more than 200,000km in width. It had temporary stop flaring.
THE BIGGEST GAS EJECTION I WITNESS...APPROX
400,000 KM IN LENGTH AND AS WIDE AS EARTH.
At 4.30pm I took a look at mine flare detector and
saw a 400,000 km black mark across the sun. It widen and then disappears. At 4.59pm another
appears and grow in length to about 400,000 km
again in approx 6min......yes 6min.....and then
disappears again.
Travel 400,000km in 6 minutes?fantastic.
Photo taken.
Sorry to hijack your thread.
Saw a beautiful hazy sunset yesterday evening around 6.30pm.
Took a few shots with my Sony WX300 point and shoot camera and realised big spots on the Sun.
