Cool New Portable Scopes to bring around

Post by Airconvent »

Weixing has been lamenting about needing to sell of his 6" scope to finance a more portable one. Here is one that is a little pricey but still does not puncture a hole in your pocket. Small aperture yes, but no tripod needed, fits in a small sports bag...how much more portability can you get??? Can be collimated, and comes with carrying strap if you ever want to transport without a bag (brave!!). The ETX90RA would offer more bag for buck, I suppose but that one needed a tripod in OTA mode and becomes heavy if you opt to keep the clumsy fork mount. On point to note is the specs seem to indicate the eyepiece is built in and does not appear to be swappable, anyone can confirm?

Now Weixing can have that portable option without need to sell his beloved 6" Newtonian!

Of course, not forgetting the "other" options :

This ones is for kids but hey...I thik it will manage nicely for open clusters, right and the price (US$89) is hard to beat? In the dark, no one can see how cartoonish it is , so no one will laugh at you!

A similar but more expensive equivalent :

Hi,
Ha Ha Ha  Why everyone is talking about me :?: :?:

Anyway, the scope is too small to be useful in singapore... the Orion StarBlast or the Sky-Watcher SKP1145 may be is a better choice.

Have a nice day.

u missed out the bushnell bowling ball and edmund scientific astroscan. anyway, i'm still wondering wat can one expect from such scopes. the astroscan is suppose to be 105mm, more than enuff aperture to show u most of the M objects and brighter ngc.

if someone where to build them with gd quality and hook them up to maybe slik/manfrotto tripods at reasonable prices, maybe 499 for 4" + tripod + 2 simple plossl, there would be alot more amatuer astronomers.
