Hi,
My upgrade offer appears to be still available, so I urgently need to sell off my ETX105 to finance it. Have dropped the original asking price from $1400 to :
$999 FINAL!!
What you get :
ETX105EC + Autostar GOTO controller (New price in US : US$795)
(note : If you buy in the US NOW, they also include a tripod as part of current promotion )
UHTC coating (new price in US : US$75) for 10% more light
Includes box, original manual controller, manual and Meade Series 4000 26mm Super Plossl Eyepiece.
Bonus : Custom made adapter plate for 3 eyepieces and allow it to be connected to a manfrotto tripod (tripod not included)
Plus shipping cost, it would have cost around US$1200 if you buy from the US like Euwen.
PLUS :
I will throw in the back pack bag used to carry this scope conveniently on your back.
BTW, its about 2 years old.
If you are interested, please PM me by latest Sunday 2100 hrs so can reply to the other guy.

Mike,
I went to Grandeye again to check on the latest prices and after looking at it, have difficulty not concluding that you replied with the best of intentions.
I am sorry but that is the reason why I cannot accept your earlier offer and my selling price stays at $999.
If it remains unsold, I will still put it to good use on a clear night. The scope is still an outstanding performer for a 4" MCT. I'm only selling it because I got bitten by the aperture bug after looking at an 8". I hope it finds a deserving and appreciative buyer eventually.
As for the "friendly" guy, you ought to talk to him AFTER you have bought your scope and let him know you are not buying anything else. He still owes me some items after 2 years!

well, upz for myself...
still hoping to have an excuse to upgrade tio an 8" scope. :-)
this scope is good for beginners who wants to look at objects immediately after getting started with its "goto" mode.
cheers

I intend to purchase LX90/8" from Grandeye whom had quoted very reasonable shipping cost after much comparison but, starts to 'worry' after reading your "friendly" highlight to Mike... So, any specific advise before I go ahead to place my order? Thx a million!

Hi,
This is not an appropriate place to discuss this. I have PM you the full details.
In summary, this guy will not intentionally cheat you. And he will ship the scope to you as promised.
Its just that he will not bend backwards or incur extra cost to offer you after sales services. You also need to call him constantly or else he will forget.
The worry is not whether he delivers but if something is wrong with the item, will you be able to solve the problem at a decent cost.
You will have to weigh this in your decision.
Bottomline : Call him and INSIST that he must test your system prior to sending to you. That's the least you can do.
good luck on your purchase!

Rich, I don't think any vendor would be willing to open up the scope, test it, report it to you, repack it, all for free. Even OPT or Handonoptics have such service, but you must pay for it.....Airconvent wrote:Hi,

Buying Meade from overseas always carry a risk. The good thing is...you get it at a very reasonable price. Or if you must have excellent after sales service if something goes wrong, then get it locally....at a premium price.
Before anyone buy Meade from overseas, you have to understand that if something goes wrong, it's very difficult to get the vendor to support you. Why? Because they can't possibly tell Meade that they are your vendor. It's not legal for them to sell it to you in the first place. And if they do it quietly, there will be a risk for them because what happen if you email to Meade privately and then tell them to ship it to Singapore? The vendor would be in trouble.....a risk they are not willing to carry.
So before anyone think of buying a Meade overseas, be prepare to stomach all these risk. If there is a problem, you need to handle it yourself. If you can't stomach these risk, then prepare to pay more buying it locally or get a proven used performer from Astromart.

quite right , vince snr but I did spent alot of overseas calls talking to the guy about how he can ensure the telescope will work prior to sending. Does not take much effort actually. Take the scope out, connect the power and autostar controller, move it about, no need to align to a star lah....VinSnr wrote:

I know of a singastroian whose LX90 could not even move when delivered.
Hence this step is impt.
Its all a matter of negotiations. You won't get this added services unless you ask for it and insist that as condition for the sale. Of course there is no way of verifying it has been done but at least we tried. Meade won't service the scope normally but they will take back the set from their dealer. When I had that earlier problem with my scope, he was not too willing to take it back for repair. I had to write to meade and complained about the problem. After some exchanges, Meade was willing to take my scope in for repair "as a goodwill gesture" but fortunately, the problem was solved before I needed to do it. (Kicked myself for it as it only needed an autostar flash upgrade to a later version that corrected the problem...silly me)
but had to agree with you any purchase without the benefit of touching the scope prior to buying it is a risk, no matter how small it is. that is why if our local dealers such as Sam has the item, I will rather buy from them. one, for the service and two, to support our local vendors.
