eh, actually i rather have a shorter tube like ur's wor. can play with binoviewer. my initial solution to my tube too long is to stick with televues/tak, since they usually need to be racked out more. happens to reach focus with a 2" diagonal with 1cm left. but then i managed to get one of those sexy tak 1.25" diagonal, so problem solved.

back to ur prob, extension tube + flattener + focuser racked out. ur focuser have any flex under those conditions? balance prolly can be solved by adding weight to front of tube, but flex is tricky.

I wonder how much McGill is selling?
[80% Steve, 20% Alfred] ------- Probability of Clear Skies = (Age of newest equipment in days) / [(Number of observers) * (Total Aperture of all telescopes present in mm)]

The tak diagonal is nice, but sexy??? u shudn't do astro too much, observe the other "heavenly bodies" more liao :D :D

If the 72mm is equal to 80ED in term of performance (at least lunar, jupiter, and saturn), i'd be very interested. Any opinions?

haha, it's sexy, people tend to molest it. 72 vs 80 wor, every mm here's counts leh. but in terms of money, the 72 might be very much cheaper.

Oh by the way, for the Megrez 80mm, I tightened the focuser quite a lot, so there is no flex and no slip under the extension tube+ flattener+DSLR load, so the coarse knob is not really smooth, but the fine knob is still very smooth.

I think the bag is an optional purchase as mentioned in the cloudynights forum.

So when you'll buy this baby and let go your 80mm?

I just ordered one from Anthony.

I had a Tak FC76 that I traded for an MN76. Although the MN76 blows the FC76 out of the water in term of performance, I still missed the finesse and portability of the Tak. The 72FD provides much better portability compared to the Tak, hopefully it doesn't lose much in performance (if it does, i'd consider a swap for owners of 80FD that want to downgrade   ).
