Counterweights

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

You can try getting some dumbbell weights from a sports shop at Queensway or Bras Basah Book Centre. You do not need a locking screw if you can sandwich the required weights between 2 counterweights.

Kayheem, I've thought of this idea as well. Since we are going to have one counterweight first, the second has to have a locking bolt first. By the way, is it possible that unstability at the countweight shaft might happen? Let's say the sandwitched counterweight might push both the counterweights to and fro.
Clear skies,
Robin.

If they are sandwiched tightly and the weights above and below are tightened, I do not think they will be pushed around.

Hi,
I think one of the member had done this before, but I think he "glue" it or something like that.

Anyway, I think it might still get push around by a bit even you sandwich them tightly... May be sandwich + velcro will be better.

Have a nice day.

I used to use bumb bell weights and velcro to keep them together.

I only had a conterweight then and I put the dumbbell weights on top of it. The velcro secured them well with very little movement.

Does the sport shop help people to custom make a dumbbell?

same here.... it is a novel idea to use gym weights as counterweights, especially when one could put them in between two conventional counterweights... i do that for a couple of 1.25KG gym weights (with enlarged central holes) in between two 7-lb Losmandy weights. even cheaper than custom weights!
