Alright, this is for sharing of your observation experience. Or, if you are arranging gatherings, star-gazing expeditions or just want some company to go observing together, you can shout it out here.
Hi,
I found a new place at Tuas South Ave 5.I went there alone to Ob on Monday nite 7th June.Unfortunately the place is only accessable with transport. It is road at most southern point at Tuas reclaimed area. The street light are not operational yet.The shore line is about another 5 Km away. The S & SE sky is as good as Dempsey. No obstruction at all.Almost 360 degree view.Only problem is the nearby worker quarter with spot light that does not switch off for whole nite.It spoils the Western part.Northern sky affect a little by factory lighting. There is another 500m of road but is blocked.Once that access is opened,it will allow better view from SE toward SW.The spot light will also behind us.There are few Blangadashi workers walking around enjoying the quiet of the nite. They did not bother me when I was there.
The following was spotted with new acquired not so new C8:Jewel box,Omega Cen,M6,M7,M4, and my favourite Jupiter. The grand unexpected finale at 11.25pm was "shooting star" bearing NWW heading above sky on top of twin chimmey of Tuas Power Station. It is so bright and distinct.Whoa!Nite well spent.
As usual Cinderalla effect kicked in and ended the session at 12.00am.
So I will try this place again.Keep you posted.

Hi David, i'm glad you have inaugurated your new scope
It's not confirmed yet, but, weather permitting, the TSN ppl (weixing & co + johnteh/clemgoh) plan to do some site survey to find a real dark place in SG this coming weekend. We may try John's farm as well, he said can see milky way from there.

Hi Dave,
Could be a lucky streak only...I work in Tuas and the place is forever shrouded in man made clouds due to the factories and furnances there...
Are you talking about the area closer to the Raffles Marina instead? its dark and remote there...can you post some pictures of the site?
thanks!

Hi Rich,
The place is much further down the road at least few Km away from Raffles Marina. If you look at the re-drawn map of Singapore, it is right at south-western end of island. It even further than Tuas Power Station. There is barren reclaimed land after the road hence no light polution.Only light from ships anchoring out in the sea.
Try to get some fotos of the place.
BTW, Raffles Marina wharf where the boats berthed is a good place to watch the sunset. It face the Western Sky.Another good site for Ob.
Actually you need to be member to access that area. However if you "act" like one, they dun bother you.
I know the place... been there for out field training quite often. The place is quite remote and barren but most importantly; no street lights.
It is quite a good place to observe if you ask me but however you need to have your own transportation.
Seeing the Milky Way in singapore is not impossible. I once saw the Milky Way (again out field training) in Yio Chu Kang area.
