Hong Kong Amateur Astronomy?

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Hong Kong Amateur Astronomy?

Post by william123 »

I will be visiting Hong Kong in October 2012, and I'm wondering whether HK has any astro-related things I should see or do. I know that HK has a Space Museum. Are there any shops that sell quality telescopes or other astro gear? Are there any regular star parties worth attending?

Thank you.

Hi William.

You can try Grand Eye Scientific --> http://www.grandeye.com.hk . Clifford have bought things from them before and his experience is good so far -- for example, his famous big binocular. We may buying some more stuff from Grand Eye soon. :P

This is a nice article about the Amateur Astronomy scene in HK:

Try to contact the astronomy groups there. They may be the best people to know the best star party and locations there.

Good luck!

Grand Eye is a Home office (SOHO) shop, but he has a lot of equipments on hand, Just call or drop him an e-mail before you turn up, otherwise, he may be out doing delivery or others. You can find his contact information in his website. Enjoy your shopping and visit to HK.

Hi
The last time I went there, the Space Museum has closed down. I had purchased a telescope from the museum store in my previous trip but when I went back a few years later, it was no longer there. Unless it has reopened. :)
Beware that Grandeye is difficult to find because the signs don't indicate his "shop". Its actually located in his home, so be sure to have his number ready to call him for assistance on directions. :)
