Ultra-big-size Milky Way Mosaic

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Ultra-big-size Milky Way Mosaic

Post by jiahao1986 »

Went to Australia in early June for the Venus Transit and some general Milky Way-gazing. Tons of data to process. Here comes something big first.

This is a mosaic of 34 individual images taken with Canon 5D Mark II with 50mm f/1.4 prime lens. Settings for each image are: ISO1600, f/4, 120s exposure. Tracked with Vixen Polarie. Stitched with PTGui, followed by some minor adjustments in Photoshop. The shooting was completed by two nights' efforts due to clouds (yes it does get quite cloudy there sometimes...)

The original image comes to the size of 20000x10000, up to 200MB. Reduced to 5800x1600 for easy web viewing~

There are more works to come, in another thread stay tuned.

Gigantic effort jiahao!!!. You should make a wall paper out of it and cover walls of your room..
