hi, just came back from a one week vacation in indonesia. i brought my not-so-portable travel scope: C8 OTA in a duffel bag (managed to carry-on the cabin)+unistar alt-azi mount and surveyor tripod (checked-in).

went to the "puncak" area (tea plantations), and did some observations. when it's not cloudy or foggy, the sky was really dark at night (no haze!). some pics of the locations.

mmm....very similar to my trip to the tea plantations near yjordjakata (can't remember the spelling) many years back....nice.
I'm amazed they let you carry the C8 and all that gear onto the aircraft!
so did you manage to deploy the scope out for observing since the skies are good? In these hills, I thinl dew is a very serious problem unless you have a heater or heatpacks..

yep, temperature (ard 18 deg C at night) and dew was a problem, brought my dewshield but can only observe for less than two hours before dew starts forming on my corrector.

the c8 ota fits nicely into a padded airline carry-on size duffel bag. just need to spend 5 minutes explaining what it is to the security/custom officer (they're quite amazed that this "thing" can shows rings of saturn, mars' polar caps, etc). it also really helps bringing the original invoice of the scope (and some photographs of the scope fully set up).
