Probable Observation Session: 26 June 2004 (** Cancelled **)

Post by weixing »

Hi,
I plan to have another observation session on saturday night 26 Jun 2004 at the grass field between the Tampines Swimming Complex main entrance, Mosque and the Tampines Sport Complex. I will be there at around 21:00 and the observation may start at around 21:45 when the flood light of the swimming complex is off. I'll be there as long as it doesn't rain.

Anyone who are interested can join me. Hope the weather will be good this time.

Have a nice day.

it's not difficult. I have attached a map below. Just spot the 3 circled stars and omega centauri is in the center of these 3 stars.

Hi,
Omega centuri can be seen clearly on average night even through a 8x50mm finder scope. If you don't have a finder scope, use your lowest power eyepiece. It is quite easy to find once you know where to look for.

Have a nice day.

Thanks! Will try again tonight. The problem is that I don't have a red led light yet and everytime i look at my book, my eyes are gone for a few minutes. the Lights around my place don't help either.

but I WON'T GIVE UP UNTIL I FIND IT!!!

I went to Dempsey to meet a friend to buy some wine, couldn't resist setting up my scope for 30 mins. Super Bright with the moon almost full. could read my charts without the torch.

Ok I think I got the location of omega centuri, I saw what I thought was a bright smudge only saw it by moving the scope... Couldn't see it with the naked eye though. Rough location is as follows....

Thanks Wei Xing for for pic!!!

Hi,
Congelation... you get it right :D  :D . It look like a bright smudge when you first saw it using low magnification, but after you observe a few more time and gain more experience, you should be able to resolve some of the outer part of the globular cluster. To see more of the globular cluster, I think you need at least 100x.

By the way, I didn't post the picture... Chris Yeo did... :)

Have a nice day.
