Finally upgraded my 2 year+ phone to HTC One S recently. This is my first attempt shooting at the Sun using the built-in HDR function in the phone which is equipped with a F/2.0 camera. Resized, no editing, as it is:
Asking a newbie question here and sorry if this has been answered before, when using camera (phone or otherwise) shooting at the Sun without any solar filter, does it damage the CCD chip inside?

Have done some quick research and found conflicting testimonies. Some apparent pro photographers have been shooting time-lapse of Sun rising till setting without any filter and claims not to see any damage done.
In any case, I should not risk it with my phone being relatively new. Unless I am caught in a really surreal moment and cannot resist the temptation. LOL.
